Doç. Nihan Atalay, flüt eğitimine Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi Devlet Konservatuvarı’nda Prof. Mükerrem Berk ile başladı. 1999 yılında Fransız Kültür Bakanlığı tarafından verilen sanat bursuyla Lyon Devlet Konservatuvarı’nda eğitimine Jose Daniel Castellon ve Frederic Berteletti ile devam etti. 2002 yılında Isviçre’den kazanmış olduğu eğitim bursuyla Lozan Devlet Konservatuvarı’nda eğitimine devam ederek, Pedagoji ve Concert Diplomaları alarak mezun oldu. Lozan Konservatuvarı yıllarında çağdaş müzik üzerine eğilen sanatçı, William Blank, Bruno Mantovani,Verena Bosshart ve Sophie Cherrier ile 20 ve 21. yüzyıl repertuvarları üzerine çalıştı. Yüzyılımızın ünlü şef bestecilerinden Pierre Boulez ile çalışma şansını elde ederek Lucern Festival Akademisi’nde aktif olarak yer aldı. Çağdaş müzik üzerine yaptığı çalışmalarından ötürü Isviçre Nicati de Luze Derneği tarafından iki defa ödüllendirildi.
2005 yılında Cenevre Konservatuvarı Barok Müzik Bölümü’nde, 17.ve 18. yüzyıl barok flüt ve repertuvarı çalışmaları üzerine yoğunlaşan sanatçı, Serge Saitta ve Basel Schola Cantorum’da Marc Hantai ile eğitimine devam ederek birçok uluslararası barok müzik topluluklarında yer aldı. 2012 yılında Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde National Flute Association’un düzenlemiş olduğu barok flüt yarışmasında birincilik ve jüri özel ödülüne layık görüldü.
Michel Mourages, Patrick Gallois, Barthold Kuijken, Philippe Bernold gibi isimlerle çalışmalarını derinleştirme fırsatı bulan sanatçı ayrıca Cenevre Oda Müziği Orkestrası ve Konservatuvarı’ da görev yapmıştır.
Solistlik kariyerine yurtiçi ve yurtdışında verdiği konserlerle devam eden Doçent Nihan Atalay, Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi Devlet Konservatuvarı’nda flüt, oda müziği dersleri vermekte ve ustalık sınıfları düzenlemektedir.
Nihan Atalay a entamé l’étude de flute traversière à l’Université Mimar Sinan d’Istanbul. Elle a continué ses études à Lyon et par la suite elle a complété sa formation de concertiste et pédagogue à la Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, avec José Daniel Castellon. En Suisse elle a découvert la musique ancienne et elle a décidé de s’engager dans un parcours d’approfondissement dans ce domaine auprès du Département de Musique Ancienne de la Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève sous le guide de Serge Saitta, en suivant aussi des cours de perfectionnement à la Schola Cantorum de Bâle avec Marc Hantäi. L’excellence de son parcours d’études est soulignée par la nombre de prix et reconnaissances qu’elle a su gagner tout au long de ses années de formation.
Professeur attitré de flute traversière à l’Université Mimar Sinan de Istanbul, elle est appelée à collaborer avec de nombreux orchestres et ensembles tant en Turquie qu’en Europe et elle participe à des projets d’échange et recherche avec des institutions internationales de grand prestige, dans son Pays et à l’étranger. Ses compétences la rendent capable d’affronter les répertoires les plus différents : du contemporain à la musique baroque, elle a joué sous la direction de Pierre Boulez, mais aussi à côté de noms de grand prestige de la musique ancienne, tels que Florence Malgoire, Jonathan Rubin, Francis Biggi.
Pionnière dans son Pays de la pratique des instruments historiques, elle gère, à côté de sa carrière de concertiste, une intense activité de promotion et diffusion de la musique ancienne, avec une attention particulière aux points de contact et aux influences réciproques, dès le XVI siècle jusqu’à à nos jours, entre les musiques européennes et turques. Elle collabore de façon régulière avec la Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève dans l’idéation et l’organisation de projets de concerts tant en Turquie qu’en Europe ainsi qu’a des projets de création et recherche.
Nihan Atalay began the study of the flute at the Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. She continued her formation in Lyon, France, and she completed her training as a concert player, soloist and pedagogue at the Conservatoire de Musique in Lausanne with José Daniel Castellon. In Switzerland, she discovered early music and decided to specialize in this area by attending the Department of Early Music at the Music University of Geneva, under the guide of Serge Saitta, and underwent further training at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Marc Hantai. Her excellent academic formation is proven by the number of awards and recognition she has earned throughout her years of study.
Nihan Atalay teaches the flute at the Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul, and throughout the years she has been asked to collaborate with numerous orchestras and ensembles, both in Turkey and Europe. She participates in exchange and research projects with prestigious international institutions both in her country and abroad. Her skills enable her to tackle a number of different repertories: from contemporary to baroque music, she has played under the direction of Pierre Boulez, but also alongside prestigious names in the early music scene such as Florence Malgoire, Jonathan Rubin and Francis Biggi.
A pioneer in the use of historical instruments in her country, alongside her performing career she is involved in the promotion and diffusion of early music, with special interest in contact points and mutual influences between European and Turkish music. She collaborates regularly with the Geneva Haute Ecole de Musique in conceiving and organizing concerts projects both in Turkey and Europe, as well as creative and research projects.
